
Professor Dr. L.K. Suryani is a Balinese psychiatrist, meditation teacher, healer, university professor, social activist, and mother of six. She has co-authored several books, including The Balinese People, a critique of Bateson and Mead’s 1930s perspective, as well as Trance and Possession in Bali and two additional titles with Peter, Moksha and Living in the Spirit. Her work is centered on helping people access the spiritual dimension in daily life. Through her active role in Balinese public life and her many social initiatives for the elderly, students, drug abusers, and the prevention and treatment of pedophilia, she offers a living example of what becomes possible when we draw on our deeper transpersonal resources. Her distinctive presence and perspective are deeply valued by the groups she serves and have been a pillar of strength for Nirarta since its beginning.
