Awaken your spirit at Bali’s most remote eastern mountain shrine.
Take part in a traditional Tirta Yatra, a Balinese-style spiritual journey shaped by prayer, pilgrimage, and movement.
Spend the day on unspoilt Mount Seraya, far from the usual routes and well off the beaten track.
Begin with peaceful prayer at the dramatic Pura Ayu temple, then continue on a healthy hike along forested paths and countless steps.
Along the way, breathe in the fresh mountain air, admire sweeping views of sea and peaks, and watch upland macaque monkeys in their natural surroundings.
At the upper shrine, traditionally associated with Iswara, symbol of inner purity, open yourself to Source in a place of quiet reverence.
The return journey offers a refreshing and deeply satisfying descent through mist and ferns.
If time allows, restore yourself in the spring pools of Tirta Gangga before heading home.

– Pura Lempuyang, Temple of Purity on Mount Seraya
We drive to the striking white sandstone temple at the upper base of Mount Seraya, about one hour from Nirarta. At this starting point of the Pura Lempuyang complex, with its white dragon-lined staircase, we set our intention for the pilgrimage.
After prayers and offerings, we begin the long ascent, climbing many, many steps through changing vegetation and shifting views of mountain and sea. Passing the monkeys, we continue into mist and cloud, which often veil the gentle and peaceful upper Lempuyang temple near the summit of Mount Seraya.
Packed lunch and offerings are included, and if time permits after the descent, there may be a chance to dip into the spring water of Tirta Gangga before we return home. Departure is at 9.00am and return is approximately 17.00.

He faced a clear choice:...
