The route begins above the western side of the Sidemen valley, with beautiful views over the valley and Mount Agung. From there, the journey continues along the scenic road through Muncan and across the countryside to the clean upland town of Bangli, where Pura Kehen and a well-organized Bali Aga village are visited.
At Tirta Empul, there is an opportunity to join Balinese pilgrims in a ritual bath beneath a series of flowing springs believed to cleanse and heal a wide range of obstacles. After bathing, prayer takes place at the temple above, where an exquisite spring of crystal-clear water bubbles up through swirling sand.
A short visit follows to Pura Mengening, a quiet yet powerful temple with nearby springs. On the return trip, time allowing, the path leads down to ancient Buddhist meditation caves at Gunung Kawi. The drive back through historically significant Pejeng village takes about an hour, followed by another 50–60 minutes to arrive home. (Full day, departure 9.00 am, packed lunch and return for about 17.30).
