Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a form of psychotherapy often used to support people living with PTSD and other mental health conditions. This interactive approach invites clients to revisit distressing or traumatic memories in small, manageable steps while the therapist guides eye movements and uses bilateral stimulation. The goal is to shift the emotional intensity connected to those memories, helping thoughts and feelings around the experience become easier to process. By keeping attention on the eye movements, the strong psychological reaction to the trauma can gradually lessen. EMDR can be especially helpful for those who find it difficult to speak about or mentally revisit past experiences. While it was first developed for trauma and PTSD, it may also support a range of other mental health concerns.
