Yoga therapy is a therapeutic approach that uses postures, exercises, breathwork, and other yogic tools to support healing and help address disease. While many forms of yoga can be beneficial, yoga therapy is more focused and may be adapted to suit specific conditions or concerns, making it a more problem-oriented practice.
In today’s busy world, many people struggle to find time for self-care. Yoga therapy is designed to offer meaningful support in a shorter period, with the intention of helping the body, mind, and spirit move toward greater balance. In ancient times, yoga was practiced for spiritual connection and to attain divine powers; today, it is widely valued for supporting overall wellbeing.
Nepal has long been recognized as an ideal place for yoga, and yoga therapy here is especially well known. Its role in wellness and medical systems continues to grow, and the setting is deeply connected to spiritual practice and healing traditions.
This seven-day retreat is structured around daily learning sessions with a yoga teacher, with each day offering fresh content. The program follows a regular schedule with two mixed yoga classes each day: one in the morning and one in the evening. Because each class is different, attending both is considered important for participants.
A key part of the experience is sat karma, a set of purification practices that prepare the body for deeper yoga work. These detox techniques are used to help remove waste materials from internal organs and support balance among the three doshas: kapha, pitta, and vata. The six practices included are:
Each practice is associated with a specific area of the body. Kapalbhati is used to cleanse and energize the skull area. Trataka works with the eyes and helps steady the mind through focused gazing. Neti supports purification of the nostrils. Dhouti is intended for cleansing the upper intestinal tract, while nauli and vasti are connected with cleansing the abdominal muscles and rectum. Together, these practices are designed to strengthen immunity and support physical resilience.
Most of these suddhi kriyas are not meant for daily use; they are practiced when needed and stopped once the purpose has been served. Because Nepal is considered the home of yoga and other spiritual activities, it remains a meaningful destination for those seeking a deeper connection with yoga and related practices. The seven-day yoga therapy program has been practiced for hundreds of years and is medically verified.
Class Structure
This one-week retreat can be extended if you feel that seven days is not enough for a full cleanse. In general, a two-week course is recommended for more complete purification.
Yoga is also valued for improving flexibility, building muscle strength, toning the body, and supporting a balanced metabolism. It may help reduce cardio-related problems to some extent and protect the body by strengthening immunity. Studies have shown benefits for respiration, energy, and vitality, and the practice can be personalized according to individual needs.
