The Medicine Walk is a two-day overnight retreat designed to bring you back into deep connection with yourself and the natural world. This moving meditation unfolds as a round-trip hike through the dramatic Groot Winterhoek mountains, with 18km covered on the way in and the same route returned the following day. Leave the digital world behind with this true digital detox, as there is no phone reception along the trail. For those who wish, an optional San Pedro microdose experience is available to support the journey. After a guided Wim Hof breathwork session, you will take a cold plunge beneath a waterfall, then spend the night by the fire sleeping in an ancient cave.

DAY 1

We collect you at 8am from a Cape Town city center location and head out of town for a 90-minute drive before beginning the hike. This experience calls for a moderate level of fitness, as you will be carrying a 10kg backpack with your clothes and food, all provided for you. Expect 6-8 hours of walking each day on gentle terrain, giving you time to fully absorb the stunning mountain scenery. If you choose, the optional San Pedro microdose can add a heightened, vivid nature experience. Along the way, discover a hidden waterfall deep in the mountains and enjoy a cold plunge after a guided Wim Hof breathwork session. We then sleep in a mystical spot overlooking this peaceful natural setting, spending the night around the fire in a hidden cave.

DAY 2

Day 2 begins with a scenic return hike along the river through the Groot Winterhoek mountains. This immersive journey offers striking views of a remarkable landscape known for its endemic bird and plant species. You will pass pristine streams with crystal-clear water that can be drunk straight from the source. As the trail unfolds, the breathtaking scenery reveals why Groot Winterhoek is such a special destination for nature lovers. This is a deeply grounding experience in one of South Africa’s most beautiful mountain regions.

THE CUISINE

Throughout the retreat, you will be nourished with delicious, wholesome meals created to support an active hiking journey. Food is prepared on a small gas cooker and designed to be practical, satisfying, and energizing. At the end of each day, enjoy a warm meal that helps restore your energy for the next stage of the adventure. In the morning, start with fresh coffee and a hearty breakfast to fuel your hike. Every meal is chosen to keep you well-fed and supported throughout the experience.
