The Life of Milarepa — A Path of Courage, Transformation and Freedom
We warmly invite you to a one-day or six-day retreat centered on the life and teachings of Jetsün Milarepa, one of Tibet’s most cherished yogis and a foundational figure in the Kagyu lineage.
Milarepa’s journey offers spiritual practitioners a powerful reminder that hope, courage, and confidence can be renewed on the path. His life stands as a vivid example that freedom is possible, even in the face of hardship and cultural difficulty, and speaks directly to modern minds that may feel caught in confusion, discouragement, distraction, and self-doubt.
His story shows that challenges need not block the way; they can become the very conditions for transformation and liberation. Throughout this retreat, we will explore key passages from Milarepa’s biography and the turning points of his life, then bring the teachings into experience through meditation and practice. We will also draw on Milarepa’s songs of realization—clear, luminous expressions of awakened mind that offer intimate guidance.
All are welcome, and no prerequisites are required for either retreat. For those who wish to read ahead, The Life of Milarepa by Tsangnyon Heruka is recommended. The Songs of Milarepa are also available separately, with commentary by Khenchen Thrangu Rinpoche and Choygam Trungpa, two profound teachers of the Kagyu lineage.
