Cosmetic acupuncture offers a holistic alternative to a facelift and other invasive options such as botox, injections, peels, or laser treatments. It is a gentler approach that works with the body as a whole, supporting not only the appearance of the skin but also digestion, sleep, stress reduction, and anxiety relief. Mei Zen is a specialized facial and cosmetic acupuncture protocol developed by acupuncturist Martha Lucas, inspired by ancient traditional acupuncture methods.
Results may last for 3 to 5 years, with longer-lasting rejuvenation often seen in younger clients. Benefits also build gradually throughout the treatment series, supporting both skin health and overall wellbeing, which is reflected in the complexion. By comparison, plastic surgery facelifts are said to last 4 to 6 years, botox 3 to 6 months, and laser skin resurfacing 3 to 5 years.
After the initial 5-week, 10-treatment protocol, maintenance sessions are typically recommended every 1, 2, or 3 months, depending on age and individual needs.
The face and neck are separate protocols and are not performed in the same appointment. For best results, we recommend completing one protocol first and then moving on to the other.
The facial protocol includes ten treatments scheduled twice weekly over five weeks. Each session combines acupuncture with a facial and scalp massage using nourishing essential oils to support skin condition and help retain moisture, along with guasha. Reported outcomes may include brighter, more youthful-looking skin, softer fine lines, reduced deeper wrinkles, increased collagen and elastin production, less sagging in facial muscles, and a decrease in discoloration linked to age spots, acne, or rosacea.
The neck protocol also consists of ten treatments over five weeks, scheduled twice a week. If you plan to do both the face and neck protocols, it is best to begin with the face and then complete the neck series afterward for optimal results. Each session includes acupuncture, plus a neck, lower jaw, and scalp massage with guasha to help tighten the underlying fascia structure. Reported benefits may include firmer skin tone, softer fine lines, a reduction in the appearance of jowls, and a more defined jawline.
