This intimate retreat is designed for small groups of just 3-6 participants and runs over 5 days with 2 ceremonies. The programme in Costa Rica is overseen by trained psychotherapists and includes a structured pre-screening and integration process, supported throughout by our facilitation team.

Our interdisciplinary approach brings together psychotherapists, PhD scientists and holistic therapists. We believe science and spirituality can be held together in one integrated path, and we work within the broad tradition of Dr Stan Grof to create a safe, supportive space where participants can connect with their own inner healer.

Pre-departure:

On Retreat:

Venue

The retreat takes place at a luxury venue in the rainforest of Costa Rica, in Puntarenas province. The location is around a 6-hour drive from San Jose International airport, or approximately 40 minutes from Cobano airport. We recommend flying from San Jose to Cobano with Green Air or Sansa Airways and arriving by 15.45 on the first day of the retreat.

Set among acres of untouched jungle, the venue offers sweeping ocean views, deep tranquillity and a sense of peaceful solitude, creating a truly special connection with the surrounding landscape.

With its tropical setting, this retreat also offers a warm summer escape in the middle of the northern hemisphere winter.

Example retreat Schedule

• Day 1: Pick up at 15:45 at Cobano airport or hotel, followed by an evening of preparation, an opening circle, group dinner, and time to settle in.
• Day 2 & Day 3: Morning yoga, breathwork/meditation, then breakfast. Mid-day psilocybin session 1. Evening reflection with support, followed by dinner, evening integration practices, and time to relax.
• Day 4: Morning yoga, breathwork/meditation, then breakfast. Integration day with 1:1 support from the therapist and facilitator. Group lunch and time to unwind on a tropical beach, followed by a nourishing group connection dinner.
• Day 5: Morning yoga, breathwork/meditation, then breakfast. Closing circle and departure from the venue at 11.30 am. Drop-off at Cobano internal airport or the town before 14.00.

If the retreat feels like a good fit, you can then complete the full screening form and pay a deposit to secure your place. A consultation call with a psychotherapist will then be arranged to confirm suitability.

Pricing

Pricing is based on small groups of 3-6 people, with each participant staying in a private double room with ensuite. There are 4 private double rooms available.

• Couple: 3,399 euro per person sharing a room

FAQ

1. Where do you meet on the first day of the retreat?
   Pick-up is arranged at Cobano airport on the first day. You can book an internal flight from San Jose to Cobano with Greenair or Sansa Air.
2. When does the final payment need to be in by?
   Final payment must be received 1 month before the retreat start date. Prices are per person.
3. Where is the venue?
   The venue is in Puntarenas province, about 6 hours drive from San Jose International airport. A shuttle is provided from Cobano airport, which is about a 40-minute drive from the venue. Arrival in Cobano should be by 15.45 on the first day.
4. Can I book extra preparation or integration sessions?
   Yes, these can be added before booking in or afterwards.
5. What are the doses of mushrooms used?
   The first session is a light, medium or high dose depending on each guest’s needs. The second day is a higher dose if suitable.
6. How long are the sessions?
   Approximately 4-7 hours.
7. Do I have to do 2 doses?
   Two doses are offered as standard, but it is the participant’s choice whether to do both. Plenty of time is allowed for discussion so you can choose what feels right.
8. What dates can I book?
   We offer a range of group retreats, as well as private retreat availability in Costa Rica between January and March 2026.
9. Do I need to take work off after the retreat?
   It is not essential, though we recommend taking as much time as possible to reflect. If you can stay longer in Costa Rica, we suggest it, especially in the Santa Teresa area.
10. How many facilitators are there?
    There is 1 male and 1 female facilitator on our retreats, both experienced psychotherapists.
11. Are the retreats private?
    We regularly work with clients who value privacy. Privacy and discretion are assured.
12. We are a group of 3-6, can you cater for us?
    Yes, the venue offers many sleeping arrangements. If your group is larger, please contact us to discuss options.
13. What is included in the price?
    The 5-day retreat in a luxury villa with a pool, private transfers, all meals, 1:1 consultation with a psychotherapist before, during and after the retreat, plus all preparation and integration sessions before and after the retreat, and a range of holistic therapies.
14. What is not included in the price?
    International flights to San Jose and the internal flight from San Jose to Cobano.
15. Do I have to pay for the psilocybin mushrooms?
    No, for legal reasons we do not sell psilocybin mushrooms.
16. Reciprocity
    Reciprocity and giving back to the natural world are central to Inwardbound. For every participant on our Costa Rica retreats, a donation is made to the Karen Mogensen Wildlife reserve expansion project, helping protect threatened ecosystems in Costa Rica.

Booking Conditions

A deposit of €1,500 is required to secure your place.

If, after consultation with our psychotherapist, you do not qualify for the retreat programme, your deposit will be refunded minus a €200 consultation and admin fee.

For earlier flights on the final day, a private taxi can be arranged. The venue is approximately a 6-hour drive from San Jose International airport, and we recommend taking an internal flight from San Jose to Cobano on the first day of the retreat.

The programme fee does not include flights or other transport to Costa Rica.

Refund, change of date and Cancellation Policy:

• The retreat is 100% refundable for cancellations made 60+ days before the retreat start date, minus a €200 consultation and admin fee.
• The retreat is 50% refundable if cancelled 30-59 days before the start date.
• The retreat is non-refundable if cancelled 0-29 days before the retreat start date.

To move your booking to another retreat:

• 50+ days before the original retreat start date: free of charge
• 30-49 days before the original retreat start date: 30% charge
• 14-29 days before the original retreat start date: 80% charge
• 0-13 days before the original retreat start date: 100% charge

Inwardbound co-founder Rob (MSc/ BA Hons) is an accredited psychotherapist with a Graduate Diploma in Counselling and Integrative Psychotherapy (Level 9) from Dublin City University. He is also a professional member of MIND, the European Foundation for Psychedelic Science, and the Institute of Psychedelic Therapy (UK).
