This classic overland route follows one of the most striking journeys in the Indian Himalayas, linking Kashmir’s green valleys with Ladakh’s vast high-altitude desert. Starting in Srinagar and continuing through Sonmarg, Kargil, Leh, Nubra Valley, and Pangong Lake, the itinerary is thoughtfully designed for acclimatisation, scenic discovery, and meaningful cultural encounters. Tour Plan

Day 1 – Arrival in Srinagar & Leisure | Kashmir–Ladakh Tour Begins

Arrive in Srinagar at 5,200 ft (1,585 m) and transfer to your hotel. Once checked in, spend a peaceful evening near Dal Lake, enjoying the city’s serene mood and the surrounding mountain views. This gentle opening day gives you time to settle in before the road journey begins. Dinner and overnight stay in Srinagar.

Day 2 – Srinagar Local Sightseeing | Gardens, Temples & Culture

Discover some of Srinagar’s most beloved sights today. Visit Shalimar Bagh and Nishat Bagh, then continue to Shankaracharya Temple for panoramic views over the city. Time is also set aside for local markets, with an optional visit to Pari Mahal if time allows. Overnight stay in a Srinagar hotel.

Day 3 – Srinagar to Sonmarg | Drive to the Meadow of Gold

Travel from Srinagar to Sonmarg (80 km | ~3 hrs). As you climb gradually to 9,000 ft (2,743 m), the scenery opens into alpine meadows and glacier-fed rivers. The rest of the day is free for short walks, photography, or simply enjoying the fresh mountain air. Overnight stay in Sonmarg.

Day 4 – Sonmarg & Thajiwas Glacier | Alpine Kashmir

Visit the famous Thajiwas Glacier, reached either by pony or on foot via a gentle walk. Expect snowfields, glacial streams, and wide mountain views framed by towering Himalayan peaks. The afternoon remains relaxed to support acclimatisation before entering Ladakh terrain. Evening at leisure. Overnight stay in Sonmarg.

Day 5 – Sonmarg to Kargil via Zoji La | Himalayan War Corridor

Drive from Sonmarg to Kargil (125 km | 5–6 hrs) via Zoji La Pass at 11,575 ft (3,528 m). Along the way, stop at the Drass War Memorial, which offers insight into the region’s historical and strategic importance. The landscape changes dramatically as you enter Ladakh. Overnight stay in Kargil.

Day 6 – Kargil to Leh | Monasteries & Moon-Like Landscapes

Continue from Kargil to Leh (215 km | 7–8 hrs), crossing impressive high-altitude terrain. Pause near the Lamayuru region, known for its moon-like scenery. Arrive in Leh at 11,500 ft (3,505 m) by evening, with the remainder of the day reserved for rest and acclimatisation. Overnight stay in Leh.

Day 7 – Leh Sightseeing | Culture, History & Geography

Explore key landmarks in and around Leh, including Leh Palace and Shanti Stupa for sweeping views. Continue to the Hall of Fame, Spituk Gompa, Pathar Sahib Gurudwara, Magnetic Hill, and the dramatic meeting point of the Indus and Zanskar rivers. This day brings together spiritual heritage, military history, and remarkable geography. Overnight stay in Leh.

Day 8 – Leh to Nubra Valley via Khardung La | High Pass Adventure

Drive from Leh to Nubra Valley via Khardung La at 18,380 ft (5,602 m) (125 km | 5–6 hrs). Visit Diskit Monastery and take in the cold desert scenery of the Hunder Sand Dunes. Evening at leisure. Overnight stay in Nubra Valley.

Day 9 – Nubra Valley Exploration | Turtuk & Thang Border Villages

Set out for Turtuk and continue to Thang (135 km | ~5 hrs round trip). Experience Balti culture, traditional village life, and the dramatic border landscape. Return to Nubra by evening for a relaxed overnight stay.

Day 10 – Nubra to Pangong Tso via Shyok | Iconic Lake Journey

Drive from Nubra to Pangong Tso via the Shyok route (160 km | 6–7 hrs). Reach 14,270 ft (4,350 m) and watch the lake shift through changing shades of blue against stark mountain surroundings. Enjoy a peaceful evening by the lakeshore. Overnight stay near Pangong.

Day 11 – Pangong to Leh via Chang La | High-Altitude Return

Travel back to Leh via Chang La at 17,590 ft (5,360 m) (225 km | 6–7 hrs). Take in expansive high-pass views and dramatic Himalayan scenery before descending into Leh. Overnight stay in Leh.
