This Level 1 Hatha Yoga Teacher Training Course at Bharatha Yoga is designed for aspiring teachers and committed practitioners who want to explore the deeper foundations of the traditional science of yoga. Rooted in classical Hatha Yoga, the program offers a comprehensive base that nurtures the physical, mental, and spiritual dimensions of practice.
The training focuses on the core elements of traditional Hatha work, including asana, pranayama, alignment, breath coordination, and drishti, helping students develop steadiness, clarity, and inner awareness.
As the course progresses, the physical practice naturally evolves into a moving meditation, where movement, breath, and mindfulness come together to support presence and inner stillness.
What distinguishes Bharatha Yoga is its authentic, discipline-led approach. The intention is to prepare both body and mind for higher states of consciousness through balance and inner purification.
Whether your goal is personal growth or the path toward becoming a confident and qualified Hatha Yoga teacher, this Level 1 training provides a strong and inspiring starting point.
As future teachers, you will be asked many questions by your students. Bharatha Yoga believes that by the end of this training, you should be able to find answers to those questions—and receive guidance along the way.
NOTE
Students engage in classroom learning for up to 12 hours each day. This course requires full commitment in order to understand the many layers of yoga practice and philosophy. Its intensity can shift the way yoga is perceived, so thorough homework and a clear mind are strongly recommended.
Level 1 of the Hatha Yoga Teacher Training Course at Bharatha Yoga Shala offers an immersive journey into classical Hatha Yoga. Set in Mysore, India, this intensive teacher training combines traditional methods with modern educational tools to create a well-rounded learning experience. Each day is structured to deepen personal practice while developing the confidence and skills needed to teach with authenticity.
Beginner and intermediate classical Hatha Yoga asanas are taught in the Bharatha Yoga Mysore Style. Students study the Bharatha Yoga Arogya (Beginner), Abhyasa (Preparatory), and Hatha Foundation Series.
The Arogya series is designed to support students who are injured, very stiff, lacking flexibility or stability, older adults, and beginners to yoga asana.
The Abhyasa Series builds a solid base through a wide range of asanas that improve balance, strength, and flexibility.
The Foundation Series takes the practice deeper and helps students access their fullest potential.
Teaching for all three series is covered in detail, and students are expected to learn the sequence for each asana by the end of the course and for the exam.

A selection of energizing and calming pranayama techniques is included in the training.
Students receive a general overview of human anatomy to better understand how their practice affects the body.
Students are expected to learn the prescribed opening and closing prayers, understand their meanings, and become familiar with chanting several other mantras.
Students are introduced to the fundamentals of yoga scriptures, ethics for yoga teachers, and the life of a yogi, all rooted in traditional texts.
