Sesshin, which means “to gather, collect, and convey the mind-heart,” is a traditional Soto Zen meditation retreat. It includes formal zendo meals, Dharma talks, sitting and walking meditation, and private interviews with senior teachers. To better understand the structure of these formal retreats and the expectations for practice, please review a typical sesshin schedule and the guidelines for zendo conduct. We ask all participants to commit to following these guidelines and taking part in the full schedule. If you have questions about the schedule or guidelines, please consult the head of the meditation hall, the ino, by email before completing your registration.
This in-person sesshin is open to people with experience in formal Zen practice, including at least two in-person One-Day Sittings at Green Gulch or City Center, or comparable experience with permission from the sesshin leader.
Orientation will take place on Sunday, December 6 at 3:00 pm. The sesshin begins that evening after dinner and concludes with lunch on Sunday, December 13.
To register, begin by completing this form.
Once approved for the sesshin, you will receive an email with a link to process your payment and finish your registration.
