Starting in Thimphu, the capital, the route continues through the lush Punakha Valley and the heritage-rich Paro region, with a special day trip to the secluded Haa Valley. Day 1 – Arrival in Paro & En-Route Sightseeing to Thimphu | Rivers & Heritage
Arrive at Paro Airport (2,200 m / 7,218 ft) and complete the visa and permit process. Meet your Bhutan representative and set off on the scenic drive to Thimphu (65 km | ~1.5–2 hrs).
Along the way, stop at Tamchog Lhakhang (Iron Bridge), a sacred site linked to Thangtong Gyalpo, and pause for photos at Chuzom, where the Thimphu (Wong Chu) and Paro (Pa Chu) rivers meet. On arrival in Thimphu (2,320 m / 7,656 ft), check in and unwind. Overnight stay in Thimphu.
Day 2 – Thimphu Full-Day Sightseeing | Culture & Traditions
After breakfast, discover Thimphu’s major cultural highlights. Begin at Sangaygang View Point (BBS Tower) at 2,865 m / 9,397 ft for sweeping city views, then continue to Buddha Point (Kuensel Phodrang). Visit the Institute for Zorig Chusum (Traditional Arts & Crafts School), the Textiles Museum, and local handicraft shops. The day also includes Zangthopelri Lhakhang, the Simply Bhutan living museum, and the Motithang Takin Preservation Centre. Return to the hotel in the evening. Overnight stay in Thimphu.
Day 3 – Thimphu to Punakha via Dochula Pass | Himalayan Drive
After a relaxed breakfast, check out and drive to Punakha / Wangdi (70 km | ~3–3.5 hrs). The route crosses the scenic Dochula Pass (3,080 m / 10,102 ft), with wide Himalayan views on clear days. Descend into the warmer Punakha Valley (1,273 m / 4,177 ft), where the rest of the day is reserved for acclimatisation and leisure. Overnight stay in Punakha / Wangdi.
Day 4 – Punakha Sightseeing | Dzongs & Valley Walks
After breakfast, explore Punakha’s most memorable sites, including the impressive Punakha Dzong, set at the meeting point of the Mo Chu and Pho Chu rivers. Cross the famous Punakha Suspension Bridge and enjoy a gentle village walk to Chimi Lhakhang, the revered fertility temple.
Optional: White-water rafting on the Punakha River (direct payment). Return to the hotel for a restful evening. Overnight stay in Punakha / Wangdi.

Depart early for a full-day excursion to Gangtey / Phobjikha Valley (85 km | ~3–3.5 hrs one way). Visit the Black-Necked Crane Information Centre and Gangtey Goempa, overlooking the wide glacial valley. Return to Punakha / Wangdi by evening. Overnight stay.
Day 5 – Punakha to Paro via Lamperi | Forests & Botany
After breakfast, check out and travel to Paro (148 km | ~4–5 hrs). En route, stop at Lamperi to visit the Royal Botanical Garden, known for its rich alpine flora. Arrive in Paro (2,200 m / 7,218 ft), check in, and enjoy a peaceful evening. Overnight stay in Paro.
Day 6 – Paro Sightseeing | Monasteries & Valley Views
After breakfast, begin sightseeing in Paro with visits to Dungtse Lhakhang and the Bird’s-eye View Point, which overlooks Paro Valley and Paro International Airport. Continue to Ta Dzong (National Museum), Rinpung Dzong, and the ancient Kyichu Lhakhang. The evening is free for leisure and reflection. Overnight stay in Paro.

Start early for the hike to Taktsang Lhakhang (Tiger’s Nest Monastery). The uphill walk takes approximately 2.5–3 hours through pine forests. Guests may also choose to hike only to the cafeteria viewpoint. Descend and return to the hotel by afternoon. Overnight stay in Paro.
Day 7 – Paro to Haa Valley Excursion | High Pass Serenity
After an early breakfast, depart for a full-day excursion to Haa Valley (67 km | ~2.5–3 hrs one way). Travel via the spectacular Chele-La Pass (3,988 m / 13,080 ft), Bhutan’s highest motorable pass. Visit Haa Dzong, Lhakhang Karpo, Lhakhang Nagpo, and Wangchulo Dzong. Return to Paro by evening. Overnight stay in Paro.
Day 8 – Departure from Paro | End of Journey
After breakfast, check out and transfer to Paro Airport (6 km | ~20–30 mins) for your onward journey, bringing this serene and culturally enriching Bhutan experience to a close.
