




This carefully paced Bhutan itinerary is designed for first-time travelers who want to experience the country’s culture, spirituality, and Himalayan scenery in a balanced way. The journey begins in Thimphu, continues through the fertile Punakha Valley, and ends in the historic Paro Valley. Along the way, you’ll encounter iconic dzongs, mountain passes, monasteries, and optional soft adventure experiences, all without feeling rushed.
Day 1 – Arrival in Paro & En-Route Sightseeing to Thimphu | River Confluences
Arrive at Paro Airport and complete the visa and permit formalities. Meet your Bhutanese representative and drive to Thimphu (65 km | ~1.5–2 hrs). En route, stop at Tamchog Lhakhang, a temple founded by the 14th-century saint Thangtong Gyalpo. Enjoy a photo stop at Chuzom, where the Paro (Pa Chu) and Thimphu (Wong Chu) rivers meet. On arrival, check in to the hotel. Overnight stay in Thimphu.
Day 2 – Thimphu Full-Day Sightseeing | Culture & Traditions
After breakfast, discover Thimphu’s cultural treasures, starting with Sangaygang View Point for sweeping views over the capital. Visit Buddha Dordenma, then continue to the Institute for Zorig Chusum (Traditional Arts & Crafts School), the Textiles Museum, and local handicraft shops. The day also includes Zangthopelri Lhakhang, the Simply Bhutan living museum, and the Motithang Takin Preservation Centre. Return to the hotel. Overnight stay in Thimphu.
Day 3 – Thimphu to Punakha | Dochula Pass Drive
After a leisurely breakfast, check out and drive to Punakha / Wangdi (70 km | ~3–3.5 hrs). Cross the scenic Dochula Pass (3,080 m), famous for its 108 chortens and wide Himalayan views on clear days. The afternoon is free for rest and quiet time in the peaceful valley. Overnight stay in Punakha / Wangdi.
Day 4 – Punakha Sightseeing | Dzongs & Valley Walks
After breakfast, explore Punakha’s highlights, beginning with the impressive Punakha Dzong at the meeting point of the Mo Chu and Pho Chu rivers. Cross the well-known Punakha Suspension Bridge and continue on a gentle village walk to Chimi Lhakhang, dedicated to the Divine Madman. Optional: white-water rafting on the Punakha River (direct payment). Return to the hotel. Overnight stay in Punakha / Wangdi.

Gangtey / Phobjikha Valley Excursion | Glacial Landscapes
Depart early for a full-day excursion to Phobjikha Valley (85 km | ~3–3.5 hrs one way). Visit the Black-Necked Crane Information Centre and Gangtey Monastery, set above the broad glacial valley. Return to Punakha / Wangdi by evening. Overnight stay.
Day 5 – Punakha to Paro via Lamperi | Botanical Trails
After breakfast, check out and drive to Paro (148 km | ~4–4.5 hrs). Along the way, stop once more at Dochula Pass and visit the Royal Botanical Garden Lamperi, home to Bhutan’s diverse plant life. Arrive in Paro and check in to the hotel. Overnight stay in Paro.
Day 6 – Paro Sightseeing | Monasteries & Valley Views
After breakfast, explore Paro’s cultural landmarks, including Dungtse Lhakhang and the Bird’s-eye View Point overlooking Paro Valley and the airport. Continue to Ta Dzong, Rinpung Dzong, and Kyichu Lhakhang. The evening is at leisure. Overnight stay in Paro.

Start early for the famous hike to Taktsang Monastery. The uphill trek takes approximately 2.5–3 hours through pine forests. Guests may choose to hike only up to the cafeteria viewpoint if preferred. Descend and return to the hotel by afternoon. Overnight stay in Paro.

Haa Valley Excursion | High Pass Landscapes
Enjoy a full-day excursion to Haa Valley via Chele La Pass (3,988 m). Visit Haa Dzong, Lhakhang Karpo, Lhakhang Nagpo, and Wangchulo Dzong before returning to Paro. Overnight stay.
Day 7 – Departure from Paro | End of Journey
After breakfast, check out and transfer to Paro Airport (20–30 minutes) for your onward journey, taking home peaceful memories of Bhutan’s valleys, monasteries, and mountain passes.
