Wu De is a Zen-ordained teacher, author, and Chajin, or tea person, who has spent more than twenty years practicing and teaching The Way of Tea (Cha Dao). During his formative years, he lived and trained in meditation centers across India, Burma, Thailand, and Japan, working closely with a Zen teacher who often used tea ceremonies to share Zen wisdom. After receiving ordination in the Soto Zen tradition, he went on to study gongfu tea with Master Lin Ping Xiang in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
He is the founder of Global Tea Hut, a quarterly magazine devoted to Tea and Tao. Through his writings, classes, and retreats, Wu De has introduced the deep connection between Zen and tea to communities around the world, reaching more than 100,000 people in over 75 countries. At the center of all he shares is one simple understanding: stillness, presence, and the Way of Tea are inseparable, and tea, at its deepest, is a path to what matters most.
