Tara Axford is a mixed media artist working across print, collage, fibre and photography. Inspired by her surroundings and by what it means to live creatively, she is drawn to the forgotten, weathered and discarded. Through close observation, she “zooms in” on an environment, studies it, and then abstracts its essence to create something new, inviting viewers to see familiar details with fresh eyes.
Her current practice explores the meeting point of 2D and 3D forms, blending traces of human life with nature. Tara is interested in contrasts: busy and calm, messy and ordered, disruption and serenity. The handmade process, the reuse of materials, and the time devoted to making something unique are all central to her work.
With a deep appreciation for craftsmanship, nature and the environment, Tara’s practice is driven by what nature offers. By highlighting the simple beauty of both the made and the natural world, she hopes to inspire others to notice it too.
