Avikal has built a diverse career as an anthropologist and freelance photographer. His long-standing interest in martial arts, which began in 1970, led him to start teaching aikido and sword in 1987. His work with the body also inspired diplomas and professional practice in shiatsu, Yu-ki, and seitai healing techniques.
From 1989 to 1994, he directed the Osho School for Centering and Zen Martial Arts in Pune, India. With more than 35 years of experience in zen and advaita, he now facilitates retreats such as Satori and the Awareness Intensive (Who is in?), along with groups and trainings on Essence, the Inner Judge, and self-inquiry.
He also works as a life coach and management trainer, focusing on presence, leadership, and conflict resolution in Europe and Australia. Among his published books are Freedom to Be Yourself: Mastering the Inner Judge, Without a Mask: Discovering your Authentic Self, and Who is in? Beyond Self-image. He was also one of Osho’s photographers.
