
With more than four decades of experience, Subhana Barzaghi is a senior guiding teacher in the Insight Meditation and Zen traditions, known for leading workshops and retreats with depth, clarity, and care. She brings together her work as an experienced psychotherapist and her role as Director of the Insight Meditation Institute, offering a grounded and insightful approach to meditation practice.
Her background includes a B.A. Soc. Sci., a Master’s Degree in Psychotherapy & Neuroscience, graduate training in Hakomi Psychotherapy, and a Diploma in Buddhism and Psychotherapy. She is also a Clinical Member of the Hakomi Association, A.C.W.A, and A.A.B.C.AP. Since 1991, Subhana has taught Zen and Insight Buddhist meditation retreats throughout Australia and New Zealand.
An authorised Zen Roshi in the Diamond Sangha, she serves as resident teacher of the Sydney Zen Centre and founded both Kuan Yin Meditation Centre in Lismore and Blue Gum Sangha in Sydney. Her teaching emphasizes embodied awareness, wisdom, compassion, and a spirit of inquiry, inviting participants into a more awakened and compassionate way of living.
