Rabbi Simcha Raphael, Ph.D. is the Founding Director of the DA’AT Institute for Death Awareness, Advocacy and Training, where he brings together scholarship, spiritual care, and deep human compassion. Based in the Philadelphia area, he works as a psychotherapist and spiritual director, offering insight shaped by both clinical practice and contemplative tradition. He also serves on the faculty of the Art of Dying Institute of the One Spirit Learning Alliance, contributing to education around end-of-life awareness and support.

Ordained as a pastoral rabbi by Rabbi Zalman Schachter-Shalomi, Simcha has devoted much of his work to the intersection of death and Judaism. He has published seven books on the subject, including the influential Jewish Views of the Afterlife, and his forthcoming poetry collection, Musings with the Angel of Death: Poems of Love, Life and Longing, reflects the reflective and heartfelt quality of his voice.
