With a deep background in both Zen and yoga, Shokuchi Deirdre Carrigan brings decades of disciplined practice to her teaching. She trained in Zen at the San Francisco Zen Center for 20 years, including four practice periods at Tassajara Zen Mountain Center and more than ten years of residential practice at Green Gulch Farm. In 2010, she was ordained as a Soto Zen priest by Tenshin Reb Anderson, and later served as Shuso, or Head Student, in 2014.
Her yoga studies were equally extensive, shaped by two decades in the Iyengar tradition with Donald Moyer. She also completed The Yoga Room Apprentices Training Program in 1992. Over the years, she has taught throughout the Bay Area, including at her own studio, Studio 610, sharing a grounded and attentive approach rooted in both precision and presence.
Since 2002, Shokuchi has led Zen and yoga retreats at Tassajara Zen Mountain Center and Green Gulch Farm, offering participants a space for reflection, practice, and renewal in serene retreat settings.
She currently lives and practices at Water Moon Guanyin Hermitage in New York City, where she teaches online Zen and yoga classes. She is also a nationally certified Health and Wellness Coach (NBC-HWC), supporting others through a thoughtful and holistic approach to well-being.
