Shastri Matthew Lyon has studied Shambhala Buddhism since 1974 and has spent more than three decades sharing its teachings with others. His long dedication to this wisdom tradition is reflected in the many meditation programs he has guided over the years, offering a grounded and thoughtful presence for participants.
He previously served as Director of the Shambhala Center in Burlington, Vermont, and also led the Seattle Shambhala Center for many years. In 2010, Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche appointed him as a Shastri, or senior teacher, recognizing his deep experience and commitment within the tradition.
Beyond his teaching work, Matthew has 32 years of experience as a financial advisor. He is also a musician, composer, and astrologer, and maintains an active counseling practice in astrology.
Matthew is married to Thomasa, and together they have two daughters and nine grandchildren. They own Windhorse, a meditation retreat center on Whidbey Island, Washington.
