Born in Rwanda, Rose Uwineza experienced profound loss at the age of six, when she lost both of her parents during the 1994 genocide against the Tutsi. She grew up in different orphanages, and her path forward was supported by the One Dollar Campaign charity initiative through the Imbuto Foundation, which gave her the chance to receive a scholarship and complete her education.
Her introduction to yoga came through classes offered by the AZAHAR Foundation as part of the One Dollar Campaign. Inspired by the practice, she went on to complete a 200-hour teacher training with the Africa Yoga Project in Nairobi, Kenya. Today, Rose serves as a yoga teacher for AZAHAR Rwanda, sharing the practice that became an important part of her own healing and growth.
