
Reverend Koshin is one of the founding members of Dharma Gate Zen and has long been devoted to the study and practice of Zen Buddhism. His first encounter with Zen took place during his college years, and that early interest eventually developed into a lifelong path of teaching, reflection, and service.
Today, he is also a professor at Oakland University, where he teaches courses including the sociology of religion. His background brings a thoughtful academic perspective to his work, while his Zen practice offers a grounded, contemplative presence that resonates with students and communities alike.
He has lived in Michigan for the past 10 years and currently resides in Royal Oak with his wife and three cats. His journey reflects a balance of scholarship, spiritual practice, and everyday life.
