
Reverend Kogen brings together culinary artistry, disciplined practice, and a deeply personal commitment to healing. Born in Garden City, Michigan and raised in Clarkston, he studied at The Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, New York, where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Culinary Arts and Restaurant Management. As an Executive Chef, he offers a grounded perspective shaped by years of professional experience and a strong dedication to mindful living.
His journey also reflects the transformative power of the Buddhist path, which became central to overcoming addiction and building a sober, fulfilling life. At DGZ, he serves as one of the leaders of the Refuge Recovery program, supporting others through a compassionate approach to recovery and wellness. Beyond that, he is active in CrossFit and martial arts, including Aikido, Ryukyu Kempo, and Homonji Iaido, bringing strength, focus, and discipline into every area of his work.
