Nilmini Fernando is a Sri Lankan Australian teacher whose path into Tibetan Buddhism began during travels in Dharamshala and Ladakh. Since 2005, she has studied and practiced with the Foundation for the Preservation of the Mahayana Tradition London, Dzogchen Beara Ireland, and Lerab Ling France, receiving teachings from several respected teachers along the way.
A memorable visit to Kamalashila Centre one summer morning, where she attended the morning meditation practice, deepened her connection to the path. The sense of arriving somewhere familiar, along with Khenpo La’s warmth, humility, clarity, and wisdom, left a lasting impression. Nilmini completed the Autumn Buddhist Philosophy Course in 2024.
Alongside her spiritual practice, she brings a strong academic background in race and gender scholarship and education. She is also the mother of a young adult son, and her work reflects both lived experience and thoughtful engagement with Buddhist teachings.
