Matty’s path began in the UK, where he built a career as a self-defense instructor and former MMA fighter. In 2018, an accident left him in a wheelchair for several months, and during that period he was called to confront a family-related trauma that had long been buried. Searching for a different kind of support, he was led to ceremonial plant medicines, including Ayahuasca and Psilocybin, among others. That experience opened the door to a deeper connection with the Mestizo lineages of Mexico and Peru, and more recently the Shipibo tradition.
As he continued this work, Matty discovered a profound sense of connection to spirit and to himself. The process supported him in cleansing on many levels: mentally, emotionally, physically, and spiritually. It began with his body and mind, including a deeper understanding of nutrition and the important role it plays in how the body functions and how the mind responds. He also learned how discipline supports training while helping to push through mental limitations, and this remains a core part of his approach as a coach and trainer.
For more than 25 years, he has worked with groups and individuals in physically and emotionally demanding environments. Today, he brings a spiritual dimension to that work through breathwork, meditation, chanting, movement, and other self-care practices.
His journey has also led him to work closely with the healing plants of Peru, including Ayahuasca and plant dietas with the former owners of La Medicina. In addition, he has continued to serve as a Liaison and Coach with the non-profit Heroic Hearts Project in both the USA and the UK, supporting Veterans as they enter the plant medicine space in Peru and Mexico to address PTSD, depression, TBI's, and other challenges. Matty is now facilitating at La Medicina once again, and he remains deeply grateful for the opportunities the plants have offered through healing and trust in his path.
