Description

About Matt Dreyfus

For over two decades, Matt Dreyfus has devoted himself to teaching the depth and precision of Iyengar Yoga. A student since 1994, he began traveling regularly to India in 1999 to study with the Iyengar family. As a core faculty member at the Iyengar Yoga Institute of New York, as well as part of the Institute’s teacher training team, he works with students across all levels and abilities. Matt also teaches in New Jersey, where he has been active in the Princeton area since 2011 and serves as Director of Teacher Education at Santosha Yoga Studio in Madison.

Teachers and Lineage

Matt’s first encounter with Iyengar Yoga led him quickly to senior teacher Mary Dunn, with whom he studied and apprenticed until her passing in 2008. Her guidance gave him the foundation to make the practice his own. Since then, his primary teacher and mentor in the United States has been John Schumacher, whose example continues to reflect the value of steady practice and deep commitment. For many years, Matt has also studied Zen Buddhism and trained within the Mountains and Rivers Order.

Personal Life

Matt shares his life with his wife, fellow Iyengar Yoga teacher Michelle LaRue. They live in Hoboken, New Jersey, with their child.
