Maria Kirsten was a senior yoga teacher, yoga therapist, and occupational therapist. She passed away peacefully in April 2021 after a brief cancer illness. We have kept her biography here to honour her memory and with care for all who knew and loved her, which was truly everyone who met her.
Those who had the privilege of learning from Maria remember a remarkable teacher and a beautiful soul. She brought energy, warmth, grace, humility, and deep compassion to everything she shared. For many years, Maria generously offered her knowledge, wisdom, and heart to our community, touching countless lives through her work with Byron Yoga Centre and through her own project, Yoga for Grown Ups.
Maria was devoted to making yoga accessible to all kinds of people, and she did so with kindness, integrity, and a wonderful sense of humour. She gave freely, lived with purpose, and inspired many.
