Maestro José Lopez Sanchez comes from a lineage of both feminine and masculine healers, carrying a balanced presence that brings strength, kindness, warmth, and compassion to the work. He holds the primary responsibility for guiding and overseeing your dieta, and when needed, he may also offer remote support during the post-dieta period. He is present at most ceremonies, leads private consultations, and facilitates the teaching and sharing circles.
Born in the native community of Raoboya, José was given his grandfather’s name in honor of the highly respected Meraya healer José Lopez, with the clear intention of passing on his invaluable knowledge and wisdom in the healing arts. At 7 years old, he began the physical and mental preparation required to enter the world of plant medicine. By the age of 9, he completed his first dieta, a year-long immersion with the powerful Shihuahuaco tree. He continued his path of learning through successive dietas with Niwe Rao and Noya Rao between the ages of 11 and 12. At 13, after his grandfather passed away, José kept learning with his uncle and with his mother, the esteemed Maestra Ynes. By 16, he had already begun healing in his community, and later worked in Pucallpa and throughout Peru. Today, José travels internationally while continuing his work in the Amazon.
His Shipibo name is Sany Meny, meaning “The messenger.” He is 42 years old and has worked with plants for 33 years. His favorite plant is Shihuahuaco. José has remarkable healing abilities and is known for helping release negative energies while identifying the root cause of an issue, whether it is held in the body, energy, or spirit, so the person can return to balance and harmony. Within his family, he is regarded as a protector. He shares his teachings in a generous, direct, and approachable way. In ceremonies and dietas, he is deeply tender, kind, compassionate, clear, and firm. Despite his great power and knowledge, José remains profoundly humble and devoted to the endless possibilities of learning and sharing.
