For 25 years, Leo has devoted his life to healing, drawing from ancient traditions and the knowledge of indigenous tribes across the world. He grew up within the Afro-Cuban tradition, where his natural connection to the spiritual realm was nurtured from an early age. He often speaks with affection about his father’s “dead’s room” in the backyard, where he learned the sacred practice of connecting with ancestors for guidance and healing.
As he entered adulthood, Leo deepened his path in the Afro-Cuban spiritual tradition and later traveled to Africa in a life-changing journey. There, he spent years immersed in African culture, expanding his understanding and exploring the power of Iboga. African tribes initiated him as a priest and shared with him the ancestral teachings of Iboga, including its gifts of communication and healing.
Leo’s natural connection to this sacred plant supported his rapid growth on the shamanic path. His final initiation was given by the respected Punu tribe in Gabon, Africa. Nature remains one of his greatest sources of inspiration, and he is also known as “Jungle Leo” for the time he loves spending in the jungle. It was there that he encountered the extraordinary power of Iboga, which he describes as the most remarkable catalyst for spiritual growth he has ever known. His knowledge of plants is extensive, and he often draws connections between flora from Peru and Africa, recognizing shared or similar botanical treasures.
For Leo, Iboga is a unifying force that brings families, communities, and tribes together. In the sacred temples of Africa, it serves as a guide, helping people move toward their highest spiritual potential in this lifetime.
He describes Iboga as a shrub with delicate white flowers and small seed pods, thriving in the Congo region of central Africa. He also shares that its ancient practices were passed down to the Babongo pygmies in the deep central jungle of Gabon. In his view, the plant’s main purpose is to support ancestral communication and strengthen one’s connection with the divine force of creation known as NZAMBE.
In his ceremonies, including those at the Modern Ancient Sanctuary, Leo works with Iboga in its natural, unprocessed form. He does not use Ibogaine, a refined substance that isolates a single alkaloid, because he believes this weakens the plant’s spiritual essence.
Leo offers two different types of Iboga ceremonies: one for healing and cleansing, and another for those ready to begin their Iboga journey. For initiated participants, he shares his knowledge and provides training in spiritual Iboga practices, when they are open and willing to receive it. He also offers his experience with Kambo, teaching others how to administer this sacred medicine.
