Jorge Vasquez Barbaran

Description

In the Shipibo tradition, Jorge’s name is Sanken Mexo, a phrase that refers to a beautiful and complete work of art. He was born in the Native Community of Curiaca and is the third of his siblings. At the age of 10, he became seriously ill, and his parents brought him to a healer named Sani, a master of plant diets with a special focus on chiric sanango. During this treatment, Sani noticed a unique energy in Jorge and said it was especially suited to working with medicinal plants and nature. This experience inspired Jorge to dedicate his life to becoming a maestro of plants and healing.

As an adult, Jorge started a family and became the father of four children. He later continued his training with another healer, Sina, under whose guidance he completed an intensive nine-month plant dieta, once again centered on chiric sanango. In this period, he received powerful energies from the plants and learned deeply from them. He was eventually invited to assist his maestro in ceremonies with patients. During one of these ceremonies, Jorge had a profound vision in which the plants themselves gifted him healing energies, confirming his path as a master healer and huesero, a specialist in physical anatomy and bone-setting.

This vision marked the beginning of his own healing practice as a maestro. Over the years, Jorge has worked with several organizations dedicated to plant medicine and healing, including Shipibo Rao in Pucallpa. Known affectionately as “Maestro Jorge Llaves” or “Master Jorge Keys,” he carries his bag of 206 keys, one for opening and healing each bone in the human body. He works with exceptional care, skill, and precision, and is a deeply valued and beloved member of the team.
