Biography

Jody Hojin Kimmel, Sensei received the transmission of the Precepts from Daido Roshi, who began the process in 2009, and from Shugen Roshi, who completed it in 2012. In 2017, she received full dharma transmission from Shugen Roshi. She currently serves as Training Director for the Mountains and Rivers Order and as Abbot of the Zen Center of NYC-Fire Lotus Temple.

Alongside her Zen training, Hojin Sensei has long nurtured an artistic path. She began her creative career early and has taught drawing, ceramics, and painting, helping others connect with the mystery and possibility of the creative process. Art Practices remain an important part of her teaching today, bringing a thoughtful, expressive dimension to her work.

She has lived in full-time residential training at the Monastery since 1990 and now divides her time with the Brooklyn temple, offering students a grounded and अनुभ? warm presence shaped by decades of dedicated practice.
