Ilan was born and raised in Israel and moved to Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada at age 24. It has remained his home base ever since.
Over the years, he has been involved in a wide range of change-making work, including peace activism, community activism, food activism, media activism, and political work within Canadian federal politics.
Ilan began taking part in Shipibo ceremonies in 2004 in British Columbia. At that time, he owned and managed a popular restaurant that he had founded and operated for 12 years. In 2015, he made the first of several trips to Peru to complete master plant dietas and to work as a facilitator and general manager of a healing center near Iquitos in the Peruvian Amazon, with a focus on master plant dietas.
Between periods of medicine work, Ilan managed four federal election campaigns in Canada and helped elect a Canadian member of parliament twice. He also served as Chief of Staff to that MP for two years.
At the end of 2021, he stepped away from political work to devote himself fully to plant medicine. Ilan believes humanity is now at a point of “Transformation of Consciousness or Bust,” and that it was time for him to dedicate his energy to human transformation of consciousness.
He joined the Soltara team in July 2022 as a facilitator and became one of the Directors of Retreats in April 2023.
Ilan completed the February 2023 cohort of Gabor Maté’s 12-month Compassionate Inquiry course for professionals.
