Horin Nancy Petrin began her Zen practice in 1996 through the Organic Farm and Garden Apprenticeship at Green Gulch Farm, where she lived and practiced for nine years. Her path has been shaped by long-term commitment, community life, and deep experience in contemplative practice. In the fall of 2014, she served as head student (shuso) with City Center Abiding Abbot Ed Sattizahn, reflecting her role within the Zen community.
She now lives at San Francisco Zen Center with her partner. After raising her young-adult daughter in the Bay Area, within Zen and Waldorf communities, Nancy brings a grounded, compassionate presence to her work. She is especially drawn to supporting new parents, and currently finds great meaning in her role as a postpartum and night doula, offering care during one of life’s most tender transitions.
