
Prerana Deshpande is a highly respected Indian Kathak artist known for her refined technique and expressive stage presence.
She began training in Kathak at the age of seven under Sharadini Gole, and gave her first performance when she was fifteen. She later studied for twenty-two years under Rohini Bhate, following the Guru-Shishya Parampara tradition and working within the Lucknow and Jaipur gharanas. Her artistry is recognized for its elegant movement, abhinaya, and strong command of laya.
Deshpande completed her formal education at the Centre of Performing Arts of Pune University (Lalit Kala Kendra), where she earned her master’s degree in Kathak and graduated first in the university. She also holds a bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, which she brings into her dance practice.
Committed to passing on her knowledge, she founded Nrityadham in Pune, a Kathak institute that welcomes students from India and abroad and supports a dedicated group of advanced performers for shows and festivals.
