Description

About Gita Tanya Roberts

Inspired by Baba Hari Dass’s words, “If you work on yoga, yoga will work on you,” Gita has seen this truth unfold throughout her own path. She has practiced yoga since 2000, initially turning to it while at university as a way to manage stress and support her mental health. Over time, her practice became much more than a tool for balance — it grew into a foundation that shapes her everyday life, including her relationships, worldview, and sense of connection to community.

Education & Qualifications

Gita Tanya completed her 200-hour teacher training at the Salt Spring Centre of Yoga in 2011, followed by her 500-hour teacher training at Mount Madonna in 2014. She is an Experienced Registered Yoga Teacher (E-RYT 500) with Yoga Alliance and earned an 800-hour yoga therapy diploma in 2019. She is also a Certified Yoga Therapist (C-IAYT) through the International Association of Yoga Therapists. Teaching since 2011, she has also served on the faculty of the Salt Spring Centre of Yoga Teacher Training Program since 2016. A dedicated lifelong learner, she values ongoing education for both professional development and personal growth. Guided by Babaji’s reminder to “teach to learn,” she brings this philosophy into every class, learning from each experience and hoping to share the healing, transformative benefits of a steady yoga practice both on and off the mat.

Teaching Style

Gita creates a welcoming, compassionate environment where all bodies are embraced. Her gentle teaching weaves together movement, breath, meditation, and philosophy to support inner calm, connection, and well-being.

Personal Life

Outside of teaching, Gita Tanya enjoys hiking, cycling, gardening, and practicing yoga. She also loves spending time outdoors with her husband and their dog.
