Kojun Gil Fronsdal brings decades of deep training and lived practice to his teaching. Ordained at San Francisco Zen Center in 1982, he later received Dharma Transmission from Sojun Mel Weitsman in 1995. As a senior Vipassana teacher, he serves as co-guiding teacher at the Insight Meditation Center in Redwood City, California, and at the Insight Retreat Center in Santa Cruz, California.
His teachings are informed not only by long experience on the path, but also by academic study. He holds a PhD in Buddhist Studies, with research focused on the early Perfection of Wisdom literature. Participants can expect a grounded, thoughtful approach that reflects both scholarly depth and practical insight. Beyond his teaching roles, he is a husband and the parent of two sons.
