Gavin Cooke’s path into Tai Chi began with Master Charles Thackaberry of the Irish Tai Chi Chuan Institute, the oldest running Tai Chi school in Ireland. Over seven years of study, he developed a strong foundation in the Yang style short form, long form, straight sword form, and Qigong, building both technical skill and a deep appreciation for the art. In 2004, he received his teaching certificate, marking an important step in his professional journey.
He then continued his training with Master Jan Golden of Tai Chi Ireland, studying with him for another seven years. During this period, his practice expanded into Hunyuan Chen taichi, Bagua Zhang, and standing practices, with a strong emphasis on postural integrity. This background reflects a teacher shaped by long-term dedication, disciplined training, and a broad understanding of internal movement practices.
