Senior Dharma Teacher Furyu Nancy Schroeder has been a resident of San Francisco Zen Center since the 1970s and brings decades of lived practice, leadership, and service to her teaching. She served as Abiding Abbess at Green Gulch Farm from March 2014 until stepping down in March 2023, and throughout her years at SFZC she has held most of the monastic positions within the community.
Her work has also extended well beyond the monastery, with long-standing support for programs serving children, people of color, the gay and lesbian community, and the interfaith community. In 2008, she was elected to the Marin Women's Hall of Fame, and in 2010 she was appointed to the Board of the Marin Community Foundation. She has also co-led SFZC’s Contemplative Caregiver Course, reflecting her commitment to compassionate service and practical wisdom.
Fu received Dharma Transmission from Tenshin Reb Anderson in 1999, grounding her teaching in a deep lineage of Zen practice.
