
Dr. Jamila Hokanson, MD, MBA, MHA is a psychiatrist who works with adolescents, young adults, women, and people of color who may benefit from a holistic approach to mental health healing. Her research also focuses on psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy for obsessive-compulsive disorder, depression, and post-traumatic stress disorder. She completed medical training at UT Southwestern Medical School and psychiatric training at Yale University, where she served as Chief Psychiatry Resident. Dr. Hokanson has also received additional training in integrative psychiatry and MDMA-assisted psychotherapy for PTSD. She serves as a study physician and co-therapist on several clinical trials exploring psilocybin-assisted psychotherapy for obsessive-compulsive disorder and major depressive disorder. She is currently co-director at West Rock Wellness, PLLC in New Haven, CT.
Dr. Hokanson takes a holistic, integrative approach to easing mental health symptoms, with attention to the wider context of a person’s life and support system. She works collaboratively with each individual to design a personalized treatment plan. Her aim is to help every person become the master of their own healing in the way that best supports them. Her approach combines mindfulness, meditation, cognitive therapies, and somatic therapies.
Originally from Saginaw, Michigan, Dr. Hokanson holds an engineering degree from Cornell University, along with dual master’s degrees in business and healthcare management. She brings 12 years of corporate management experience and has led global and community-based organizational change initiatives, including local and national nonprofit startups focused on education and health disparities.
