I first came to meditation in 2000, when I was a college sophomore searching for a deeper way to meet life. Since then, I have spent more than six cumulative years on meditation retreat in both the Insight and Vajrayana traditions, studying closely with teachers including Joseph Goldstein, Tara Brach, Yongey Mingyur Rinpoche, and others.
More recently, Nico and I realized a long-held dream by completing a three-year meditation retreat together.
Before teaching dharma full-time, I worked for ten years as a classroom teacher, with a focus on creative writing and cultural studies. I completed Spirit Rock’s Community Dharma Leaders program and the Insight Meditation Society’s Teacher Training Program, and I now serve as co-coordinating teacher for Spirit Rock’s CDL program.
Alongside my work with Refuge of Belonging, I teach on retreat teams at Insight Meditation Society, Spirit Rock, and other centers around the world.
Nico and I co-authored How Not to Be a Hot Mess: A Buddhist Survival Guide for Modern Life, and our new book This Messy Gorgeous Love: A Buddhist Guide to Lasting Partnership will be released on April 14th, 2026. I am devoted to depth practice, both on retreat and in everyday life, and deeply grateful to the lineage teachers who have modeled these traditions so beautifully.
Today, I am especially interested in how we can support living Buddhist traditions in ways that feel accessible, inclusive, and deeply relevant to our complex times.
If you feel drawn to a community that takes both inner work and real life seriously, I invite you to explore Refuge of Belonging.
