Delia Mahua Perez is a respected Shipibo-Konibo midwife whose path began at just 17, when she learned this sacred work from her maternal grandmother. A beloved member of her family, she is Manuela’s first cousin, the daughter of Pascual Mahua, and the younger sister of Robertina. Known for her care, kindness, and natural grace, Delia embodies the meaning of tsiri ainbo — a “stunningly beautiful woman who always does what is right.”
She is also a cherished great-grandmother and an important source of support for her family. In addition to her role as a healer and caregiver, Delia serves as head chef alongside her husband Jose, preparing nourishing meals for guests and students with dietary restrictions, as well as traditional remedies. Her presence brings warmth, love, and a deep sense of harmony to the land, the food, and the plant medicines shared with all who come to learn.
