About Dave Smith
Dave Smith is an internationally recognized Buddhist meditation teacher, addiction treatment specialist, and published author whose work bridges traditional practice and modern applications. Grounded in the Insight Meditation tradition, he was authorized to teach through the Against the Stream Buddhist Meditation Society. Over the years, he has brought meditation-based support into jails, prisons, youth detention centers, and addiction treatment facilities, sharing practical tools for reflection and resilience in challenging environments.
In addition to leading residential meditation retreats and classes, Dave offers trainings and consulting in both secular and Buddhist settings. He also supports students through his meditation mentoring program, creating space for deeper guidance and personal practice. More recently, he founded the Secular Dharma Foundation. He lives in Paonia, Colorado.
