I’m Claire, and at 53 I feel as though I’ve arrived a little late to yoga — but I’m very happy to be here.
I was raised in a small village in Scotland, studied French at the University of Edinburgh, and spent more than 30 years building a career in retail, following the inspiration of my beloved dad.
I met my Australian/Greek husband in London, and we have made our home in Melbourne since 2003. He carries a light that shines brightly.
Retail gave me the chance to lead remarkable teams and co-create my own business with two dear friends, School of Retail. It has always been about shaping exceptional experiences for people.
My first encounter with yoga came in 2013, when I was pregnant with my daughter. Stella is my starlight. My two sisters are also my closest friends — family means everything to me.
In 2020, when the world felt especially heavy, I began studying philosophy in search of light. I’ve always been drawn to the space between darkness and brightness, and to the stillness found as life swings between the two. My morning and evening mantra meditation practice certainly helps guide the way.
In 2022, I climbed the stairs to AYA looking for Phil, and instantly felt at home. The smiles, warmth, and light were unmistakable. I’ve now taken 250 classes and counting — I am home.
I find real joy in making things: our home, a garden, beads, paintings, outfits, and now yoga classes. Classes that bring light to body and mind.
And so here I am: a qualified yoga teacher with my Advanced Diploma of Yoga from AYA, carrying 350 hours of incredible practice, ready to share with the AYA community. It is a privilege I meet with all of my heart.
My beautiful mum named me Claire, which means light in French. I look forward to exploring that light with you.
