About Carol Cano

Carol Cano, M.A., began practicing Theravada Buddhist teachings more than 35 years ago at Wat Kow Tahm in Thailand. A multi-ethnic Indigenous dharma teacher, she is a Spirit Rock Residential Retreat Buddhist teacher, a core teacher at the East Bay Meditation Center (EBMC), and the Founder and Executive Director of Braided Wisdom, a BIPOC-led cross-cultural mindfulness nonprofit organization.

Teaching Approach

Carol weaves Buddha Dharma together with earth-based practices and ancestral Indigenous wisdom, supporting practitioners in building a more meaningful relationship with themselves, their communities, and the natural world. Her work emphasizes regenerative care, ecological harmony, and accessible pathways for reconnecting with ancestral traditions, cultural practices, and earth-based ritual and ceremony.

Grounded in psychology and guided by deep lived experience, Carol offers a calm and compassionate presence in her teaching. She creates space for clarity, steadiness, and a renewed sense of belonging, especially in these complex times.
