Bharatha Yoga was created to introduce people to the many health benefits of yoga and its positive influence on both physical and mental well-being.
Alongside his teaching work, Acharya Bharat Shetty was chosen as the Brand Ambassador of Swastha Mysuru, a wellness initiative in Mysuru.
Born on 19th March 1979 in Udupi, a town in South Karnataka, India, Bharat Shetty began practicing yoga at a young age. He was especially drawn to the practice after it helped him manage the chronic asthma he suffered from. His first teacher was Yogacharya Kumara at the Shantivana Trust, near his hometown. As a child, he was a keen observer and an eager learner, and much of his early practice developed naturally and through self-study, without formal training. He was a loving son and a thoughtful student of nature.
In 1999, a bus accident left him unable to walk for a period of time, but he committed himself to recovery and soon walked again. He credits this renewal to the inner strength developed through yoga.
In 2002, he trained personally with the world-renowned Yoga Guru, Padma Vibhushan B.K.S. Iyengar, in Pune, India. This deeply enriching experience expanded his understanding and insight into yoga.
His first teaching experience came in 1995, when a group of people practicing in a park asked him to teach them regularly. Through this, he discovered his true calling. Soon after, he chose to become a professional yoga teacher, sharing the benefits of yoga through Bharatha Yoga.
He founded Bharatha Yoga Shala in Bangalore in 1998. In 2004, he moved to Mysore, one of India’s most important yoga hubs, and established a new Bharatha Yoga Shala there.
Since then, he has regularly led teacher training courses and guided Mysore Style self-practice classes.
A second shala, IndeaYoga Shala, was also established in the city center, offering classes throughout the year.
For Bharat Shetty, Bharatha Yoga is more than exercise. It is a practice that brings together mind, body, and breath, helping create balance in life.
Bharat Shetty has been recognized for his philanthropy.
He remains deeply committed to the practice of yoga.
He has conducted workshops across India and internationally, including in Scotland, Belgium, Ireland, Germany, Spain, Denmark, Switzerland, Malaysia, Italy, England, Dubai, the Netherlands, and China. He is also a highly sought-after corporate yoga teacher, having trained professionals from Union Bank of Switzerland, Google, Wipro, Oracle, ANZ Information Technologies, and Theorem.
