Barry Gillespie first encountered formal meditation practice in 1978 at the Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Ashram, beginning a lifelong path of study and inner inquiry. In 1999, a combined Ashtanga yoga and Vipassana retreat opened the door to deeper exploration, leading him toward Theravada Buddhist practice. Since then, he has spent many extended retreats immersed in meditation, including time at the Insight Meditation Society in Barre, Massachusetts, and Spirit Rock in Woodacre, California.
His teaching is shaped by decades of dedicated practice and retreat experience, offering a grounded and contemplative approach for those interested in meditation, mindfulness, and the depth of the Buddhist path. With a background rooted in both yogic and meditative traditions, Barry brings a steady presence and a thoughtful perspective to his work.
