Anna Maynard is an interdisciplinary artist, movement researcher, and longtime member of the Earthdance community. She earned her MFA in Dance and Performance from Smith College and works across improvisation, ensemble devising, photography, facilitation, and communications strategy. Her experience also includes local arts organizing and facilitation, as well as consulting with artists and mission-driven organizations on storytelling, visual identity, and community engagement.
She is a 2026 North Carolina Dance Festival Artist in Residence. Her current research focuses on contemplative composition and improvisational practice, with an emphasis on presence, deep curiosity, and honest relationship to all parts of the self. Through contact improvisation, compositional inquiry, focusing, and embodied listening, she explores resilience, perception, and the intelligence that can arise through sustained practice.
Anna is also a longtime photographer of Earthdance Creative Living Community, documenting the place and its people over time. This ongoing image-making practice runs alongside all of her work, forming a living archive of community, movement, and change.
