Alice Park grew up on whole foods, most of them grown and prepared by her parents and grandparents. Some of her earliest memories include shucking oysters on a mud beach while her grandfather caught octopuses, checking with her grandmother to see whether garlic and chili peppers had dried properly in the sun, and then bringing them to the local mill to be ground into powder. In springtime, she foraged in the mountains with her mother and fermented a wide range of vegetables and grains for the winter.
After moving to Canada, her diet gradually shifted to the Standard American Diet, and within a few years, health concerns began to surface. By the time she finished university, she was dealing with autoimmune disease, hypothyroidism, obesity, disordered eating patterns, insulin resistance, adrenal fatigue, constipation, anxiety, severe PMS, and bloating. She searched for answers, but felt discouraged by the symptom-focused approach of Western medicine and pharmaceutical drugs. When she tried to take her health into her own hands, the amount of information available only left her overwhelmed. In 2015, Alice enrolled at the Institute of Holistic Nutrition in Toronto to build a deeper understanding of human health and return to the philosophy she had long felt drawn to: let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food.
After graduating with Honours, Alice began her clinical nutrition practice and has since supported hundreds of clients in reducing inflammation and pain, restoring energy and improving sleep, losing excess fat and building muscle, balancing hormones, healing the gut and improving digestion, supporting remission of autoimmune conditions, easing allergy symptoms, strengthening cardiovascular health, reversing diabetes and pre-diabetes, and safely detoxing different organ systems in the body.
Her nutritional counselling is highly personalized and includes an in-depth assessment of symptoms and lab work. Her recommendations are thoughtful, detailed, and easy to follow, while still creating meaningful results. Education and empowerment are always at the heart of her work, with the goal of helping each client gain the foundational knowledge of human nutrition and the biological individuality of their own body so they can eventually take full ownership of their health and thrive independently. Alongside her one-on-one work, she also creates and leads nutrition workshops for her community.
As a clinician of holistic and functional medicine, Alice understands that the body is designed to repair and regenerate itself when supported by a nurturing environment, an empowered mind, and a willing spirit. To better serve others in realizing their full potential, she completed Yoga Teacher Training (Yoga Alliance Certified 500 hours) in the lineage of Kashmir Shaivism, using an alignment-based teaching method.
Yoga first entered Alice’s life through meditation, when she discovered that yoga brings the mindful and intentional quality of meditation into physical movement. Throughout her adult life, yoga and meditation have returned to her in difficult seasons, helping her grow, and deepening her sense of freedom, peace, and sovereignty.
Recognizing the power of yoga and meditation to help people move through life’s changes with equanimity, and seeing the limits of nutritional counselling alone, Alice chose to integrate yoga and meditation into her offerings. She teaches hatha yoga and meditation to support people in their sadhana, or spiritual practice, and encourages mindful, intentional work through alignment, intelligent adjustments, and freedom of breath in each pose.
Through motherhood, her interest in alternative education and early childhood development expanded into the field of yoga. She completed trauma-sensitive children’s yoga teacher training (RCYT-115hr) and now teaches families with babies, toddlers, and young children about the many tools and wisdom of yoga. When offered in an empowering, inclusive, and age-appropriate way, children’s yoga can nurture healthy relationships and boundaries, connection to intuitive wisdom and the heart, awareness of personal strengths and those of others, emotional literacy and expression, and resilience through self-care practices, especially for highly sensitive children. She also completed prenatal yoga teacher training (RPYT-110hr) and guides prenatal and postnatal mothers through the sacred journey of motherhood with yoga.
Alice lives and serves on the unceded traditional territory of the Kwikwetlem First Nation, within the shared territories of Katzie and other Coast Salish Peoples, also known as Coquitlam, BC, where she lives with her husband and two children. Her offerings are available in and around this region, and upcoming events can be found on her Instagram.
She holds deep gratitude for the balance between her life calling to help others realize their full potential and her inner calling to serve her family as a mother and wife.
