Description

Outdoor rock climbing is an unforgettable way to build confidence, skill, and connection with the rock. If you’ve been curious to try it, or if you’ve climbed a few times with more experienced partners but still feel unsure about going out on your own, this introductory clinic is designed to help you take the next step into sport climbing outdoors.

The program combines ground instruction with hands-on practice on real rock, focusing on single-pitch, bolted sport routes. You’ll have the chance to top-rope and, for those who want to explore it, try lead climbing as well.

Topics covered include:

  • Gear overview
  • How to choose and read routes
  • Movement on natural rock
  • Sport leading, “mock” leading with an added top-rope, and lead falls for participants who are interested
  • Lead belay techniques and key considerations
  • Building and cleaning sport anchors
  • Responsible outdoor climbing, including awareness of common hazards, environmental impact, and other climbers

Prerequisite: experience with top-rope and/or lead belaying.

Includes:

  • 2 full days of climbing instruction, with days running from 8:00am-5:00pm
  • Climbing equipment, including personal gear (harness, helmet, shoes, and belay device) plus group gear (ropes and hardware)

Does NOT include:

  • Meals/beverages
  • Transport to and from the climbing area
